Its been a hectic start to the week, got back from the CLA Game Fair latish on Sunday, and unloaded all birds, camping stuff (I hate camping!) and stuff. Came in the house, and was welcomed by the dogs, however Arabis is worse now. She spent two days at the vet being checked over, her poor eye has the pupil completely dilated, which must be very uncomfortable as she can't control the amount of brightness. Her eyebrow is dropped and to cap it all she had a back problem as well. She is not allowed to go upstairs so I left her in my office, which is also the main room we (the dogs and I) use, but she was howling at 3.00am and so I put her in with the others in the kitchen, and still more howling! She is not happy about not being on the bed with me.

The birds did very well at the Game Fair, first day was very very windy and they all flew well, Karis the Saker got blown away but came in within 15 seconds of seeing the lure once I found an unoccupied space to swing it for him! On the second day he did the most brilliant two stoops, two teardrops from between 200 and 400 feet, it was a joy to watch. Hare (tawny eagle) got blown away in the afternoon but waited for me in the Duke's garden - nice of him (the eagle that is, and the Duke come to think of it!) The last day all the birds did well even though the weather was not great.

On Monday Arabis's face had swollen up, so rushed off to the vet to have her looked at. She has a tooth problem, I can't believe that the eye and the tooth are not related. She is back without the tooth but no one seems to know what is wrong, so hopefully various pills will do the trick, she is a little more cheerful today.

All the birds flew well today, the wind is still with us (tuesday), the only one who was a little dramatic today was one of the baby peregrines, the smallest female, who flew off down the field and ended up in the pond!! I wish there was a racehorse called duckweed (racehorses are the theme for names this year) because he was covered in the stuff!

Hooray for Marshall telemetry, it works under water!!

Hello

I have to say that keeping a weblog can at times become compulsive and at other times a chore. Sometimes I am berrated for not keeping it up and sometimes I get wonderful comments from people who follow the news of the Centre.

It is fun to share the daily goings on here, some good and some bad, some funny and some sad, but all a part of our daily lives.
And as I said before its a pretty cool to be here and it is a great place to visit, you should try coming and watching the birds and meeting the staff and of course the dogs.

An interesting video on Lead

An interesting video on Lead

I find it staggering that people who want to hunt don't see the value in changing their ammunition from lead to a safer product. We have stopped using lead in petrol, in paint, in our water pipes, but they still want to use lead - ah well, apparently eating it not only kills birds but leads to reduced intelligence in humans......................

NO ONE is asking you to stop legal and genuine hunting, they are just asking you to change your ammunition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
